After a welcome from the ALBA core leadership, talks will focus on how to best use and take advantage of the ALBA Declaration on Equity and Inclusion and the guidelines for inclusive conferences or other resources recently published by ALBA.

The second part of the assembly will consist of breakout rooms with each room being dedicated to one of the Network's Working Groups. Members are highly encourage to participate actively and provide feedback and ideas on ALBA activities.

Welcome & introduction – Announcement of the new ALBA Chair-elect & official welcome of the new Board of Directors members

3.30 – 4.15 pm

Presentations and panel discussion on how to best use the ALBA Declaration on Equity & Inclusion and the resources made available to the members in order to promote diversity

3.30-3.50 pm Presentations:

  • Dr Laura Andreae (Incoming Chair of the Network - King's College London, UK) - The ALBA Declaration on Equity & Inclusion: resources and next steps 
  • Dr Bita Moghaddam (Chair of the ALBA Conference Package Working Group - Oregon Health & Science University, US) - The ALBA conference package: a work in progress
  • Dr Violetta Zujovic (Paris Brain Institute, FR) - Developing a neuroscientific approach to gender bias and achieving gender equity

The second part of the assembly will consist of breakout rooms with each room being dedicated to one of the Network's Working Groups. Members are strongly encouraged to participate actively and provide feedback and ideas on ALBA activities. Here is a list of the working groups that will be represented at the meeting with more information on what they are about:


Awards - awards & prizes organised or that could be organised by ALBA, but also suggesting how to increase diversity in nominations and winners


Conference package - further discussing the ALBA conference package as presented during the first part of the Assembly, but also contributing to ALBA's collection of slide decks on EDI/DEI topics


Data - providing input on the two data projects that ALBA is currently leading or suggesting new projects & new ways of collecting data


Declaration - further discussing the next steps for the ALBA Declaration on Equity & Inclusion as presented during the first part of the Assembly (continued development, targeting new signatories, etc.), and ideas for helping ALBA share best practices


Disabilities - joining or giving input to this new Working Group focused on neuroscientists with disabilities, in order to define its goals & actions


Events - holding ALBA & EDI/DEI events or workshops at conferences (mostly on-site), suggesting ideas for topics, formats, speakers etc., discussing how to increase accessibility


Gender & sexual diversity - identifying impactful activities that increase the inclusion of neuroscientists from the LGBTQIA+ community


Global diversity - discussing the ALBA podcast and identifying impactful activities that increase the inclusion of ethnically diverse neuroscientists


Imposter syndrome - identifying impactful activities to tackle the imposter phenomenon


Interview series - providing ideas for series and identifying how series can best serve our mission of promoting diversity (increasing visibility, tackling complex issues, etc.)


Webinars - organising ALBA webinars, suggesting ideas for topics, formats, speakers etc.
