Joining Alba can be an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about promoting diversity and inclusion in brain research. By becoming part of Alba, individuals can actively contribute to the mission of creating a more equitable and inclusive scientific community. Those who have personally experienced or witnessed the challenges faced by underrepresented groups in the field may find a personal connection and a strong motivation to join Alba. By addressing biases, advocating for change, and implementing strategies to improve representation and opportunities, individuals can make a meaningful impact in the field. Alba's networking events, mentoring community, and curated resources offer valuable opportunities for networking, collaboration, and continuous learning. The establishment of awards, such as the Women in Brain Science/Diversity Award, provides recognition for individuals who contribute to positive change. Moreover, by engaging with policy makers, funding agencies, institutions, and other stakeholders, individuals can actively influence policies and practices that promote diversity and inclusion in brain research. Overall, joining Alba provides a platform for individuals to contribute their skills, knowledge, and passion to foster a more diverse and inclusive landscape in brain research.
