The Network

ALBA represents a global diverse network of individual neuroscientists who are involved in research, education, communication and advocacy, and are committed to supporting and advocating for actions and policies that foster diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in brain sciences across the globe. We currently have 1890 individual members from 91 countries.

I joined ALBA because :
Equity, inclusion and diversity are the pillars for progress and advancement. On the other hand, science and especially brain sciences dealing with the most complicated, elegant, demanding and intriguing organ of our body has only to gain through the involvement of diverse groups. It is only then, that science can be fruitful and effective. ALBA supports this idea, and this is the reason that I support ALBA. The commencement of this initiative gave wealth to the neuroscience community and thus personal experiences have their own space and way to be channeled in a common path.

I joined ALBA because :
I believe that this is exactly the kind of initiatives that are needed in the community and being an active member can make a tangible difference. As a mother and neuroscientist it is already difficult to reconcile both roles - therefore, we should at least try to minimise other factors such as gender, or other, biases.

Because as a young female neuroscientist, I hope to be part of an inclusive and diverse research environment in my research career ahead. I believe one of the first steps in achieving this is creating awareness and role models. I joined ALBA because I hope to be inspired by female scientists and scientists from other underrepresented groups and hopefully also in turn I will be able to inspire future (and established) neuroscientists as well.

Fields of research :
I joined ALBA because :
My work at the Simons Foundation is to develop the neuroscience early career programs that promote the inclusion of diverse and underrepresented scientists in the study of various sub-disciplines of neuroscience. Our programs aim to expand access to research experiences for undergraduate students and build communities of early career scientists working to advance their careers and create a more inclusive research training environment.
