The Women of Color Initiative is a collaborative initiative to address the visibility, awareness, and advocacy of intersectionality and women of color in academic medicine, organized by the Group on Women in Medicine and Science in partnership with the Group on Diversity and Inclusion and the Group on Faculty Affairs, as well as key AAMC staff. 

We are an integrative group of neuroscientists seeking to further our antiracist impact through 1) Learning about systemic racism within our institutions and its impacts on Black folks, Indigenous folks, and other folks of color, 2) Developing actions that we can take in our labs, departments, schools, and larger communities to support marginalized folks and work towards dismantling systemic racism.

In a unique collaboration between film creators and researchers, the current large-scale field studies explored whether "Picture a Scientist," a documentary featuring stories and research about bias in STEM, functioned as an intervention and persuasive message targeting sexism in STEM.

In this first webinar from eLife’s Global South Committee for Open Science, they explored the challenges faced in this region and shared their collective vision for enhancing Open Science infrastructure and promotion. They were joined by guest panellists Emmanuel Boakye, Hu Chuan-Peng and Jesica Formoso, who shared their first-hand experiences and insights.
